chmod - in the hands of an idiot :-(

What a way to introduce myself! I can't believe I did
it ! I am brand new to Linux as this post will attest,
but I just tried 'chmod 777 -vR' while in
/usr/local/bin after having su $ROOT thinking I would
change the permissions on /usr/local/bin/*.* and the
dir, but as you can guess I was presented "thanks to
-v" a listing of every file on my system being made 0777

Since I assume all security is now lost, is there any
way to "undo" this or set permissions back to default
on this Red Hat 7.2 install or am I doomed to reinstall
the distro?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
